CIT is a University of New Haven hub created to advance technology-related initiatives and broaden participation with our external stakeholders. CIT encompasses all technical and technology-related fields and interdependence among various disciplines to advance its mission of creating externally focused curricula for workforce development, workshops, research, and other outreach opportunities.

Mission: To advance technology education and research through a multidisciplinary lens.

Vision: We strive to be a key player in the state, region and the nation to promote education and research in areas of Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Threat Intelligence, and Smart Manufacturing.

Education
We curate learning opportunities that reach a broad range of learners including, but not limited to, K-12 and postsecondary students, business owners, leaders, and entry-level to experienced employees.

Outreach
CIT partners with local, regional, and state-based organizations to curate advanced skill attainment workshops and programs for additional training and workforce development opportunities.

Innovation
We use our expertise to offer solutions and projects that improve the digital experiences and safety in the workplace and society overall.

Strengths
CIT operates in three areas that have been built using its core strengths and faculty expertise across disciplines at the University of New Haven. The areas reflect the current market demand as well as projected growth in the next ten years. These core areas are:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Cyber Threat Intelligence
  • Smart Manufacturing

Key Objectives
We aim to advance our mission through the following objectives:

  • Offering Work-Based Learning (WBL) opportunities to the current and future workforce.
  • Partnering with external organizations to address workforce needs.
  • Working on cutting-edge research on the three core areas, namely, AI, Cyber Threat Intelligence, and Smart Manufacturing.
  • Enhancing CIT’s computing and personnel resources.
  • Improving and expanding research and experimentation space.

The hacking club creates an environment for students to work together to learn more about cybersecurity outside of class.

The Hacking Club organizes CTF@CIT, the university’s virtual capture-the-flag event attracting more than 740 teams and 1,100+ users. Prizes are usually sponsored by leading information security and technology companies.

The hacking team consists of the most qualified students who compete in collegiate cybersecurity competitions:

  • CCDC- National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition
  • CPTC- Global Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition

Women in Cybersecurity Student Chapter

The mission of the WiCyS Student Chapter is to build a community within the University of New Haven (hereafter referred to as “Academic Institution”) that promotes women’s education, participation, and leadership in the field of cybersecurity.

The WiCyS Student Chapter is organized with the following purposes:

  • To decrease the gender disparity in cybersecurity.
  • To provide education, mentorship, and networking support to students through the WiCyS community.
  • To promote and recruit women in cybersecurity workforce through the Academic Institution.

Smart Device Security Awareness Workshop

Dr. Khare leads the "Smart Device Security Awareness Workshop for Seniors" in partnership with the New Haven Free Public Library. The initiative educates seniors on safely using their smartphones and other smart devices, recognizing the unique vulnerabilities faced by this demographic. Students participate in research opportunities exploring the intersection of technology and security.

The Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC)

The competition is designed to assess students' depth of understanding and competency in managing the challenges of protecting network infrastructures and information systems. It enables students to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom while fostering teamwork and effective communication. https://www.nationalccdc.org/

Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC)

CPTC is a bit different from several other collegiate Cybersecurity competitions. Instead of defending your network, searching for flags, or claiming ownership of systems, CPTC focuses on mimicking the activities performed during a real-world penetration testing engagement conducted by companies, professional services firms, and internal security departments around the world. https://cp.tc/overview

National Security Agency's Codebreaker Challence

The NSA Codebreaker Challenge provides students with a hands-on opportunity to develop their reverse-engineering / low-level code analysis skills while working on a realistic problem set centered around the NSA's mission. While the challenge is intended for students, professors are encouraged to participate as well.
