I have tried to embody the spirit of kindness and community (fundamental to Hatfield
scholars) in my role as Women in Business club president. Since my appointment to
the role in my second year, I have used community as the foundation for all initiatives
the club pursues. Each event I assist in planning, each team meeting I facilitate,
each interaction with members, and each conversation with professional guests all
revolve around the community of students involved in the organization. Connection
to and support of the greater New Haven community is also a driving factor in why
I continue to work diligently through the Women in Business club. We strive to connect
talented students with local opportunities to develop their skills and assist in empowering
them to succeed. Seeing young professionals find their voice and take on rewarding
projects inspires me to continue supporting their growth and nurture the sprouts of
success.

Business Management Senior Looks Forward to Career in Esports
A member of the University’s varsity esports program and part of the Halo team, Lincavicks
has pursued his passion while building his confidence, his leadership skills, and
his network. He also had the opportunity to help build a team. He has fond memories
of his time playing esports with his fellow Chargers and competing against other schools.
“I have loved every second of it!” he said. “Playing on multiple rosters to building
a Division 1-qualified Halo team from scratch will always stand out to me. I have
enjoyed making connections with people that will last a lifetime. I have the best
teammates I could ask for, and I get to do what I love.”
Lincavicks will accept his bachelor’s degree in business management, which has a concentration
in esports management, as part of the University’s 2024 Commencement, a three-day
event in May that will take place on the main campus in West Haven, Conn. He has wonderful
memories of his time as a Charger, including his internship with Ecruit.gg, an esports
platform that connects high schoolers to opportunities in esports.

Powering Ahead: Cloe Wight ’28 Joins University's Women’s Golf Team on her Path to
Business Management
Wight is excited to officially join Charger Nation this fall as a member of the University’s
Class of 2028. Wight, who hails from New Jersey, is one of the University’s newest
incoming students. She looks forward to being a member of the women’s golf team, which,
last year, won the Northeast-10 Conference Championship in just its second season
as a varsity program, and to getting involved on campus.
“I am excited to study business management because I hope one day I can manage my
own golf training business,” she said. “I want to have a great education so I can
do so properly.”

This course explores issues of social identity, social and cultural diversity, and
societal manifestations of oppression as they relate to the workplace. Workforce demographics
are rapidly evolving due to changes in birth rates, immigration, legal systems, social
attitudes, and economic expansion. Managing businesses and other organizations will
require not just contemporary knowledge and technology but the expertise to manage
increasing workforce diversity.
Covers the principles of managing the growth phase of a sustainable entrepreneurial
business. The main challenge for the entrepreneur is to build an organization capable
of sustainable innovation and growth and ensuring that the organization is capable
of sustaining this growth in the face of increased market opportunities and competitive
threats.
This course highlights the strategic role of compensation in attracting, motivating
and retaining high quality workforce. It provides an overview of the key components
of a compensation system and describes the way compensation objectives are linked
to the business strategy. Students taking this course will gain the theoretical and
practical knowledge to design, administer, and evaluate compensation systems.
This course provides a comprehensive overview of how to develop a talent management
strategy that is aligned with the business needs. It covers topics such as workforce
planning and analysis, recruiting, selecting and placing, managing performance, succession
planning, retention strategies, and ways to develop a culture of excellence to support
a talent management program.

“I cried when I left the U.S. because I was scared,” confessed computer science major
Isaura Franco ’26. “And, I cried again when I had to leave Italy because I didn’t
want to leave.” It was clear that returning home brought a bit of reverse culture
shock. Things were quieter and less connected in comparison to Italy’s lively, social
atmosphere. Summing up her experience in three words, she smiled and said, “beautiful,
life-changing, and fun."
Spend a semester at the University’s satellite campus in Prato, Italy, or participate
in hundreds of opportunities that enable you to learn about and immerse yourself in
cultures, customs, and traditions from around the globe.
William Adams, an emeritus professor of computer science, led a program for many years
that brought students to our campus in in Tuscany, Italy, in the cradle of the Renaissance.
"I tell parents that their son or daughter will be standing taller when they see them
again after their European experience," said Adams. "Upon their return, parents often
attest to this fact."
