Located in the Bergami Center for Science Technology and innovation, the Schaub Makerspace offers the University of New Haven community access to cutting edge digital fabrication equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, vinyl cutters and embroidery machines. The Schaub Makerspace is designed with collaboration in mind giving students, faculty and clubs the opportunity to bring ideas to life. The whole University of New Haven community is welcome so please stop by and introduce yourself.

About The Makerspace

The Schaub Makerspace is designed to create a space where students, faculty and staff can come to teach, design projects and engage in experimental learning. The makerspace contains several working spaces: a collaborative classroom, a studio workspace, a team huddle room, a wood shop, a metal shop, a laser shop, a spray booth area, and multiple storage areas.

Collaborative classroom

The classroom is fully equipped with a high-resolution projector, mobile whiteboards and raised stadium style seating for 40 students. Conveniently located directly outside the makerspace studio, this space can be reserved for classes or clubs to host events, speeches and classes.

Studio workspace

The studio workspace is designed to be a flexible workspace for classes, clubs and individuals to come use our rapid prototyping tools including our: 3D printers, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, embroidery machines, soldering materials, vacuum former and crafting supplies.

The Laser Cutting Shop contains our laser cutters and desktop computers with adobe illustrator available to design and print directly to the machines.

Wood shop

The wood shop contains standard woodworking equipment including a miter saw, band saw, jig saws and hand tools. We also have three CNC machines for both large and small projects. Tools must be used with staff member present.

Large format printing area

The large format printing area contains both our printers and a spray booth for painting and varnishing. We also store usable scrap supplies for the wood shop, vinyl cutter, and miscellaneous materials for student use.

FAQ

General
Undergraduates, graduate students and faculty from the University are all welcome during our open hours.
Yes! Our friendly staff can walk you through using the resources available in the makerspace so you can become an expert as well.

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

If you request time outside our regular hours, we may accommodate you as needed. Send us an email at make@newhaven.edu.

Faculty and clubs can reserve the space for classes and events. Please email make@newhaven.edu to schedule with at least one week's notice.
The makerspace is designed to be used for people working on projects not for general studying. In the makerspace, reservations take priority for using the space so you may be asked to leave if a class or club is incoming.
Safety
Closed toe shoes are required at all times in the makerspace. Eye and hearing protection are required anytime you are cutting materials, hammering, using tools or are in proximity to areas which require PPE (ex. In the wood shop).
No, the makerspace is not a food safe area. We are located between a convenient student gathering area and an outdoor patio which are both safe to eat in.
Storage & Materials
The makerspace provides limited materials used for training on tools. Classes will provide their own relevant materials and individuals are welcome to bring their own material to use in the space. No tools are allowed to leave the makerspace.
We have 50 code protected lockers, 25 open cubbies and a storage room for larger projects. All storage is only for active projects and will be cleaned out after the semester ends without warning.
