University of New Haven enrollment vice president Walter Caffey discusses the "invaluable contributions" of the University's international students.

Bucking a national trend, the University of New Haven is seeing an increase in international undergraduate applications, specifically from Brazil and Vietnam.

Still, amid the current political climate, Walter Caffey, the University’s vice president for enrollment management, told Inside Higher Ed, a go-to resource for college leaders, that "at the same time we are certainly hearing from prospective students a little bit of concern. We’re fielding more questions about safety and security and our campus community."

What international students bring to our domestic students in the classroom is invaluable.

More than 15 percent of the University’s student body hails from nearly 50 countries around the globe.

Ultimately, Caffey believes cultivating a diverse campus environment is critical for all students.

"What international students bring to our domestic students in the classroom is invaluable," he told The Atlantic for a feature story. "Anything that may impact that is a concern on many levels."
