to learning about this fast-growing and essential healthcare field. Our
students learn cutting-edge prevention and detection skills, becoming both knowledgeable
practitioners and careful guardians of their patients’ health. They learn from our
skilled faculty, with their vast clinical experience, and apply those lessons in real-world
settings, including the University’s Dental Center.
You will learn important prevention and detection skills as you become both a knowledgeable practitioner and a guardian of your patients’ health. You’ll also:

Accreditation
The University of New Haven's Dental Hygiene program is accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation
(CODA), and has been granted the accreditation status of "approval without reporting
requirements." The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the
United States Department of Education, and is the only agency to accredit post-secondary
dental and dental-related education programs nationwide.

Dental Hygiene Courses and Learning Outcomes
As a graduate of the associate degree program, you will be ready for the necessary written National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and clinical board examination — and then employment in a dental office. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science program will be prepared to work in private dental offices as well as a variety of other healthcare settings. Bachelor of Science degree students also possess the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a master’s degree.

University Dental Center
Across the street from our main campus, the Dental Center features a preventive dental clinic with 18 chairs, three private radiology rooms, and a dental materials laboratory. The Center provides patients with a variety of oral healthcare services, from cavity and periodontal disease assessments to X-rays and oral cancer screenings. We serve approximately 1,000 patients per year.
Exciting news! As of September, 2026, the University has sent out an RFP (Request for Proposals) for architectural planning and design services for a for a renovated and expanded dental clinic of approximately 14,000 square feet. Although the project is still in its early stages, it's a testament to the longevity and success of our program - with the best yet to come!
