About Wendy
Wendy Hillman is a lyric soprano and educator whose foundational musical studies included violin and piano. She holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance from SUNY Stony Brook, and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music.
Her performance career encompasses principal roles in opera, operetta, and musical theater; orchestral and chamber music engagements; and recitals as both a soprano and collaborative pianist. A prizewinner in several national vocal competitions, including the Jensen Foundation Competition, she was also a finalist in the Royal Opera House Covent Garden Vilar Young Artist Auditions in London. An accomplished interpreter of both established and contemporary repertoire, she has premiered several new works, including Sheila Silver’s opera The Thief of Love, released by Hummingbird Films. Opera News praised her performance as “warm, strong and graceful...a voice that truly matters, and deserves international attention.”
Alongside her performance career, she has served as music director, organist, and soloist for congregations in New York, Boston, and Connecticut. Her academic teaching experience includes faculty appointments at Southern Connecticut State University and Choate Rosemary Hall.
Dr. Hillman teaches courses in performance, musicianship, music theory, and music history. Drawing on her experience across a wide range of musical disciplines, she guides students in integrating theoretical knowledge, technical proficiency, and thoughtful artistic judgment.
