About Moin

Dr. Moin Bhuiyan is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of New Haven, where he also serves as the Founding Director of the BioSignal-AI Lab. Since September 2023, he has additionally served as the MSEE Student Advisor and Coordinator.

Dr. Bhuiyan earned his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh; his M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), Canada; and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Windsor, Canada. He further expanded his expertise through postdoctoral training at the Institute for Diagnostic Imaging Research (IDIR), affiliated with the University of Windsor, and conducted at MaRS Discovery District, Toronto, where he focused on translating advanced scientific concepts into practical, high-impact innovations.

Prior to joining the University of New Haven, Dr. Bhuiyan worked as a Research Scientist and Assistant Teaching Professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and as a Contract Lecturer at Toronto Metropolitan University. At WPI, he worked on pioneering research on a myoelectric hand-wrist prosthesis system, integrating advanced EMG signal processing with machine learning algorithms, and developed a custom 16-channel analog front end for high-fidelity EMG acquisition. His postdoctoral research produced the Portable Pulmonary Injuries Diagnostic Device (PPIDD), a rapid point-of-care tool for detecting pneumothorax, with significant potential in emergency and critical care medicine. Recently, Dr. Bhuiyan received the Third Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Machine Learning and Data Engineering (ICMLDE 2024).

Dr. Bhuiyan’s research interests span

  • AI-driven signal and image processing,
  • Computer and Sensor Networks,
  • Quantum Computing, and
  • Micro/nano-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS).

His ongoing projects include

  • AI-based brain tumor detection, segmentation, and classification,
  • AI-powered prosthetic arm development, and
  • smart sensor systems for pressure ulcer monitoring.

Since January 2017, Dr. Bhuiyan has demonstrated broad expertise in teaching a diverse range of courses across electrical, computer, and biomedical engineering. His teaching portfolio includes both foundational and advanced courses.
